Belly Dance with Mahsati Technique Intensive: Essential Elements Level 1

Come learn the beautiful art of belly dance. Beginning with the foundational movement
vocabulary, we will work through technique exercises and drills, combinations, and a
beginner level choreography over this 12 class semester course. As we work through the
skill vocabulary you will need on your dance journey, you will be introduced to some of the
different style variations that fall under the belly dance name such as Egyptian Raqs Sharqi,
Turkish Oryantal Dans, and American Classic Orientale.
Wear clothes that are comfortable for movement and that allow the teacher to see your
body position. You may want to bring a scarf to tie around your hips, but it is not required.
You can dance barefoot, in socks, or in dance shoes. If you wear shoes, something with a
flexible sole would be best unless you require stiff soles or orthotics for extra support.
Drop-ins are welcome. This Level 1 class is suitable for complete beginners trying belly
dance for the first time to advanced students looking to enhance their technique, but is
focused on learning starting from the foundational movements of the dance. The 12-class
semester runs from January 10-April 17. There will be no class on March 14. The final
scheduled class will be April 4 with April 11 and 18 available as potential make-up dates for
missed/cancelled classes or recital rehearsals as needed. Class will culminate with an
informal showcase on Saturday, April 20th at 7pm.
